Unboxing the Silonn Slim01b is a breeze. Inside, you’ll find the ice maker itself, an ice scoop, an ice bin, and the user manual. Our first impression? We were pleasantly surprised. It looks even prettier in person than it does in photos. The sleek black plastic exterior makes it one of the most stylish ice makers we’ve seen.
Like most bullet ice makers, it’s pretty compact, so it won’t hog counter space. This is perfect if you have a smaller kitchen or limited room. The transparent lid is a nice touch, letting you watch the ice-making magic happen inside.
Setting up and using the Silonn Slim01b is a cinch, as it usually is with countertop models. Just plug it in, fill it with water, and hit the power button. The control panel is straightforward, featuring only two buttons and five indicator lights. But, and this is why it’s not our top pick, it also melts pretty quickly because it’s hollow. We’d say it’s okay to use this ice for drinks you gulp down fast, like sodas or milkshakes. But for drinks you sip slowly, like alcoholic beverages, it’s not ideal. It’ll water down your drink before you know it.
And another downside with this ice is that when it starts to melt a bit inside the machine, it tends to clump together, and trying to separate the cubes without breaking them is a real pain!
One of the cool things about the mechanism used to make this type of ice is that it’s super speedy. Bullet models like this one are known for their fast production times. With the smaller ice cube setting (size S), the Silonn Slim01b can crank out a batch of 9 ice cubes in just 6 minutes. If you choose the larger setting (size L), it takes about 8-9 minutes per batch. This is perfect for those moments when you need ice in a hurry, like when you get home from work craving a cold drink.
It’s worth noting that the production speed of any ice maker can vary depending on the room temperature, and in some cases, also the temperature of the water you use.

We’ve tested it for hours on end, even when it was pretty hot out, and it made ice really quickly. So, we’re pretty sure it can make that much ice if you really need it to. But to do that, you’d have to be refilling the water and emptying the ice basket all day long. And honestly, who has time or patience for that?🙄

Like I said earlier, we’ve been really putting this ice maker through its paces over the past few months. We wanted to see how it would handle pretty much anything, so we had it running for hours on end. We checked everything – how well it made ice, how it moved the ice around, how it reused the water, and even all the different settings like the auto-shutoff, the self-cleaning function, and the indicator lights. We even cranked up the heat to around 90°F to see if it could handle a hot room.
And honestly, we were blown away by how well it worked. Everything ran smoothly, no hiccups at all. The only thing we noticed was that when it got really hot, it made ice a little slower. But even then, the ice was still perfect.

However, there’s no need to worry about wasting the melted ice. The water resulting from this melted ice goes right back to the reservoir to be used to make new ice!
